OVERVIEW:

The Executive Director (ED) is the key management leader of the South Valley Industrial Collaborative (SVIC). The ED is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, community outreach, membership development and sustaining alignment with the regional educational and economic development organization. The position reports to the Chair of the Board of Directors.

 

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

The ED role is very entrepreneurial and often self-directed. We’re looking for someone who is familiar with manufacturing and is comfortable working with manufacturing CEOs, as well as having the ability to connect with, and build trust with education partners.

 

This role will be a regional knowledge base of career education programs for manufacturing and engineering from high school to community colleges and universities – to ensure we maximize collaboration in designing training programs, and we are able to identify resources and programs suitable for our manufacturing partners to be involved in.

The ED will be an expert at articulating the benefits of SVIC and its key position in the future of Industry in the South Central Valley. Strong organizational skills, salesmanship and an ability to collaborate across the public and private sectors are vital to this role.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive contact database of local manufacturers, government agencies and education institutions and programs to provide a foundation for outreach efforts.

  • Research and connect with education partners to become the knowledge leader of all regional manufacturing career education programs currently operating and in development.

  • Connect and build relationships with regional manufacturers to help them identify career education programs and resources available to them that can address their workforce needs and concerns.

  • Partner with others with engagement responsibilities from partner organizations in order to leverage resources, share what works, strengthen relationships and unify efforts to engage industry.

  • Engage with educational and community partners on joint projects and initiatives (Manufacturing Day, Industrial Summit, Apprenticeship drives, etc.).

  • Conduct systematic outreach to constituents to encourage active participation.

  • Work with committees comprised of local business, economic development board representative, and education partners to develop sustainable internship, externship and apprenticeship models and help to implement programs.

  • Plan and facilitate Advisory Board and quarterly member meetings.

  • Develop long-term calendar of events.

  • Document strategic planning for SVIC to optimize impact.

  • Work with contracted agency to develop a communications and marketing plan to increase understanding of the importance of manufacturing and career education for a vibrant economy.

  • Participate in the planning of events relating to the SVIC mission.

  • Identify value-added training opportunities and work with Advisory Board to develop or establish these trainings.

  • Work with board to develop sustainable revenue sources.

  • Identify web-based resources for partners and the general public.

  • Conduct research on manufacturing best practices, innovations and business opportunities.

  • Include key partners from government, education, and industry in advisory, execution and events to demonstrate unity of intention and commitment to outcomes.

  • Identify measurable outcomes and document membership and activities (such as: expansion, relocation or retention needs, job growth, contraction, etc.) in order to provide quarterly and annual reports for funders and the SVIC Advisory Board, including recommendations for greater impact.

  • Develop and maintain budgets for SVIC events and operations.

 

1. Board Governance

  • Works in partnership with the board, members and partners to achieve the objectives and mission of the organization detailed in the strategic plan.

  • Works with the chair and board to develop agendas for board, membership and committee meetings.

  • Maintains effective communications with the board so members can make informed decisions.

 

2.  Financial Performance and Viability

  • Helps develop sufficient resources to ensure the financial health and growth of the organization.

  • Maintains fiscal integrity by submitting a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements to the board.

 

3.  Organization Mission and Strategy

  • Supervises and or implements the programs of the organization.

  • Engages actively in the community and with partners to develop brand awareness, a positive image and effective partnerships in all sectors.

  • Manages and ensures performance of contracts with other partners.

  • Ensures website is updated and effective.

  • Manages the work of contractors focused on communications, outreach, internships, externships and the annual Industrial Summit.

 

CURRENT ACTIVITIES OF THE SVIC

  • Twelve board meetings a year which include:

    • Annual Industrial Summit

    • Four quarterly partner meetings

OVERVIEW:

The Training Resource Navigator is one of the roles for the Good Jobs Challenge for the South Valley Industrial Collaborative (SVIC). The Good Jobs Challenge is designed to help get Americans back to work and increase wage growth by investing in (1) developing and strengthening the regional workforce training systems that support sectoral partnerships, (2) designing sectoral partnerships, and (3) implementing sectoral partnerships that will lead to high-quality jobs.

 

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

The Training Resource Navigator role is very entrepreneurial and often self-directed. We’re looking for someone who is familiar with Manufacturing and Transportation and Logistics industries in the Tulare and Kings County region. Must posses the ability to engage, recruit, organize and convene industrial businesses to develop or enhance industrial sector partnerships.  Facilitate and assist the industrial sector partnerships with identifying priority skill needs and hiring commitments across the Tulare and Kings County regions.

This role will be a regional knowledge base of career education programs for manufacturing and engineering, from high school to community colleges and universities.  Should also ensure that we maximize collaboration in designing training programs, to identify resources and programs suitable for our manufacturing partners to be involved in.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Executive Director (ED) to develop and maintain a comprehensive contact database of local manufacturers, government agencies and education institutions and programs to provide a foundation for outreach efforts.

  • Outreach, engage and recruit businesses in Tulare and Kings County from contact database to foster relationships:

    • This may include but is not limited to calling, initiating a meeting, visiting, and touring businesses in Tulare and Kings County.

    • Learn about some of their initial needs to identify pain points.

    • Provide information on what a Sector Partnership is.

    • Invite businesses to be a part of the industrial Sector Partnership.

  • Identify and enroll businesses as SVIC members.

    • Develop a process for establishing  SVIC memberships.

    • Onboard and track SVIC memberships.

  • Conduct Industrial Sector Partnership Convenings using structured strategies from Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) and NexGen Sector Partnerships.

    • Plan and conduct meetings.

    • Coordinate dates and locations.

    • Invite Industrial employers to attend.

    • Identify skill gaps for critical jobs.

    • Identify pain points.

    • Identify action items as a result of meetings.

    • Document and track findings.

    • Assist in ongoing SVIC Good Jobs Challenge  Performance Goals to track and record all relevant data including but not limited to SVIC:

      • Business outreach.

      • Memberships, industry convenings, attendees.

      • Business commitments for sector partnerships.

      • Businesses committed to hiring participants.

      • Businesses number of conditional hiring commitments.

  • Partnerships with the WIB, Kings County Job Training Office (JTO)  and other key stakeholders:

    • Partner with WIB for assistance with design and implementation of Good Jobs Challenge roles and responsibilities.

    • Utilize aggregated data in Tulare and Kings Counties to be utilized as a guide for educational curriculum design with key stakeholders.

    • Map competencies and curriculum to align with employer demand.

    • Assist educators and training providers to connect with participating employers and assist with quality assurance of hire placements.

    • Partner with WIB, JTO and others to support hiring recruitment assistance.

    • Identify and monitor outcomes.

    • Communicate progress, outcomes and return on investment with stakeholders.

 

Board Governance

  • Works in partnership with the board, members and partners to achieve the objectives and mission of the organization detailed in the Good Jobs Challenge SVIC Statement of Work.

  • Works with the Chair, Executive Director and Board to develop agendas, membership and committee meeting objectives.

  • Maintains effective communications with the Board so members can make informed decisions.

  • Attend monthly board meetings (typically 2nd Friday of the month from noon to 2:00pm).

2.  Financial Performance and Viability

  • Maintains fiscal integrity by submitting documentation of monthly expenses according to budget.

 

3.  Organization Mission and Strategy

  • Supervises and/or implements programs of the organization.

  • Engages actively in the community and with partners to develop brand awareness, a positive image and effective partnerships in all sectors.

  • Manages and ensures performance of contracts with other partners.

  • Manages the work of contractors focused on communications, outreach, internships, externships and the annual Industrial Summit.
